My Story
B’s Table specializes in California Soul (CaliSoul) cuisine, which is food rooted in the black southern traditions of her ancestors. She expands on and revisits these age-old recipes using local produce and ingredients and includes many plant-based options. Betty’s seafood gumbo won a Los Angeles restaurant Mardi Gras cook-off and 2 round trip tickets to New Orleans! Her Gumbo evolved from growing up in Seattle and making use of the incredible seafood bounty of the Northwest to the use of local California products and is the signature dish of her CaliSoul cuisine. Her Roasted Vegetable Gumbo was created to satisfy locals request for a Vegan option.
Betty is passionate about all aspects of food. She loves food-styling, organic gardening, reading, writing, and discussing food. She was featured in Eisenhower Healthy Living Magazine (Winter 2024) and Palm Springs Life Magazine (2022). Her CaliSoul cuisine was served as part of the special guest chef program at Grand Central restaurant of Palm Springs in Feb and July of 2023). She made a guest appearance on Eye on the Desert during 2023 Black History month showcasing her cuisine and discussing the importance of sharing our culinary legacy.
Baking is another one of Betty’s passions and her Ginger Shortbread cookies, Sweet Potato Cookies, Coconut Cake with Pineapple Filing and Buttermilk Cake with Rum-Caramel Glaze are frequently sought after desserts.
She has also cooked for numerous celebrities - the most memorable being Mohammed Ali, whose personal note and autograph is a treasured part of her culinary collection.
Betty graduated from Los Angeles Trade Technical College with a Culinary Arts degree and has studied at Culinary Institute of America, Le Cordon Bleu and UCLA.
She has traveled extensively; Italy and Spain have been her most enjoyable travel destinations to date.
Betty currently resides in La Quinta with her wife of 10 years Teri.
